The Dragon Trip has come a long way since our founder, Ramsay Kerr, took his first group of pioneering backpackers to far flung corners of China in 2010. Six years on, The Dragon Trip now has offices in Shanghai, Beijing and London and runs more than 50 backpacking tours and 20 schools trips in China every year.
The success in China allowed us to roll out our first set of Japan backpacking tours in 2016. These have also proved hugely popular, allowing us to increase the numbers we will be taking there in 2017.
Time to think
After such phenomenal growth, we felt this was the perfect time to rebrand. That does not mean we are moving away from the fun-loving, adventurous spirit that has underpinned our success. Instead, we saw it as an unmissable opportunity to take stock and really define our purpose and future direction.
So, putting on our Don Draper trilby, we wanted to share some of our vision with you…
Authenticity
The word we kept coming back to throughout the rebrand process was “authenticity”. We realised this is the backbone of what we do, whether it’s the places and activities included on our backpacking tours or the way members of The Dragon Trip’s team deal with our customers and partners. We started taking backpackers around China because we noticed a lack of authentic Chinese travel experiences being offered. The Dragon Trip was set up to fill that void and that drive for authenticity is what we’re all about.
Understanding
Looking ahead, the company is now taking enough people to Asia to really understand the impact that travel in new places can have on people. We see it every day in the feedback and reviews we get from customers. Travel has the power to challenge preconceptions and knock down cultural barriers between people. By bringing people of all backgrounds and nationalities to Asia we hope to play a small part in fostering better understanding between people. It is important our brand reflects that desire.
Inclusivity
Finally, we are entirely inclusive. Anyone and everyone is welcome on our trips, regardless of age, nationality, background, sexuality, likes and dislikes. The Dragon Trip team is as diverse as our travelling groups. We’re made up of people from all over China and the rest of the world, collaborating successfully in different languages to make sure our backpacking tours are successful.
New website and new look
As part of the rebrand we are delighted to unveil a refreshed Dragon Trip look and a new website that has been a labour of love. We wanted both to reflect the values outlined above: authenticity, understanding and inclusivity.
The new website brings together all of our products, allows for easy navigation between our expanding product offerings in adventure and educational tours, and gives you a better sense of who we are and what we’re really about.
