Travel in 2022 is undoubtedly going to be a year of making informed choices on where to go on trips. For those of you currently trying to suss it out, here’s the lowdown on why our South Korea tour makes an ideal choice.
It’s been a tough year for the world and for travel-lovers- a year where we’ve had to put our dreams on hold, passports on ice and refrain from the type of exotic experiences we’ve grown accustomed to. However, this virus won’t last forever and when lockdowns lift- The Dragon Trip will still be here with our range of awesome adventure tours. We have spent the last year improving our trips and thinking about how to make the next tours even more special. One trip we are particularly excited is our 2022 South Korea tour which we believe would be the perfect 2022 trip, after the year we’ve all had. If you’ve missed discovering a fascinating new culture, eating incredible foods, staying in awesome places, immersing yourself in nature, sampling soju and so much more more- then this could be the perfect trip for you! The below points will help set you on your way to move on and turn the page into the next chapter.
Natural splendour
For many of us- lockdown has meant being in the same small space for weeks on end. Whether you’ve been shielding, self-isolating or simply adhering to whatever local lockdowns you’ve been in- it’s likely that you are ready for a bit of a shift in scenery. If you are going to make that change then where better than a country with natural wonder in abundance? Hiking in Korea is a big deal and it’s easy to see why with a veritable mountain of potential options within easy access of the cites. If you arrive a few days early then there’s plenty of routes near Seoul that are popular with the locals. On our trip we visit the stunning Sokcho National Park which has a whole series of fantastic treks including hiking up to the panoramic viewpoint atop Ulsanbawi Rock. For Koreans, hiking is a popular weekend pursuit and it’s a good place to pick up any gear that you might be missing. We’ll also be out and about in nature in Jeju Island where we end the trip. This island- off the bottom of the country- is an outdoors playground with a whole host of natural sights to get your teeth into. Our favourite is walking along the Jeju Olle Trail to the Jeongbang waterfall- a definite highlight of any 2022 South Korea tour. This waterfall is 75ft high and the vast majesty of it will be enough to wash away the strains of the last few months!
A change is a good as a rest
One of the joys of travel is immersing oneself in a new culture. Netflix and reading can help but there’s nothing quite like having all your senses piqued by a new location. Whether it’s the sights and smells of a local market, the taste of a new dish or simply closing your eyes and listening to the sounds of people chatting in an unfamiliar language- the experience of travel can truly remove you from the day to day to grind. Korean culture is unique and intriguing in equal measure with a whole host of fascinating differences. We explore some of these and their impact in our blog about how Korea punches above its weight in the world. Our adventure leaders will run through these cultural quirks and give you an insight into life in Korea. From the rituals of the drinking culture and norms therein to the nature of education in the country. Our tour also showcases some of the intriguing cultural elements of this country- from the ubiquitous noreybang/karaoke houses, temple stays to learning about how to be a diver in Jeju- this trip will shake off your
Meditate your problems away
If you are feeling stressed then the prospect of a temple stay in the mountains with a morning’s mediation is probably enough to at least soothe some of that anxiety but imagine the effect of actually doing this! On our 2021 South Korea Tour- we do this on day 6 of the trip. We’ll venture up into the mountains near Gyenojju and learn about the daily rituals of and customs of the Golgulsa temple. An afternoon of relaxing in the hills, archery or horse-riding before a chanting service and meditation class. With an overnight stay- you’ll feel immersed in the tranquil surrounds and this feeling will be developed by a further mediation class the following morning.
Treat yourself
It’s fair to say that the world is in need of a treat and Korea is on the best places on earth to really reward yourself with a whole array of decadent options. If you’ve been missing nightlife then Seoul and Busan have a whole series of pubs and bars for you. Busan – is a city by the ocean and the sea-side locations means there’s beach bars aplenty. We’ve explored some of the vast numbers of options available in Seoul in a previous blog. Another way you might want to reward yourself is with a massage at a local jimjimbang- these bath houses offer a whole series of rooms to relax in – from saunas, to massage rooms to cold soaking rooms- a great way to unwind. Plus- there’s the delectable, delicious delights of Korean cuisine to get your teeth into. Our guides will take you to a range of different places and we can help you book restaurants if you’d like somewhere special before or after your trip!
Hopefully- the world will open up soon as you’ll be on a 2021 South Korea tour before you know it!
