For the best view of the palace, hop on a tranquil boat cruise across the lake and watch the sunset cast an orange hue on the palatial walls.

Amber Fort, Jaipur
This red sandstone and white marble phenomenon is located just outside the city of Jaipur and is one of the most well-known forts in India. Perched on top of a hill, the fort boasts views over the Maota Lake, which makes for a wonderful photo opportunity. Head to the Kesar Kiyari complex in the evening for a spectacular sound and light show, which maps out the fort’s history on the outer walls.
Ancient Ruins of Hampi
Although located in the state of Karnataka, a visit to the ancient ruins of Hampi will make you feel like you’ve entered a fantasy world. The magnificent temple ruins are surrounded by a unique, rock-strewn landscape. A short hike up the boulders to catch the sunset will give you the best panoramic views of the entire area. Try your hand at rock climbing in this bouldering oasis, take a boat ride along the river, visit the local elephant at Virupaksha Temple or wander through the vibrant bazaar. Backwaters, Kerala
One of the most visited places in Kerala, the scenic backwaters offer a truly unique experience. Made up of lagoons, lakes, rivers and canals, the waterways were traditionally used for transport, fishing and agriculture. Hop on board an Indian houseboat and float along as you take in the lush green landscape, wildlife and villages that line the water’s edge. Many waterways are too narrow for big boats to manoeuvre, so hop off the houseboat and into a canoe to meander your way through the mangroves!
The Blue City, Jodhpur
The striking blue buildings that make up the old city of Jodhpur create a beautiful contrast to the arid Thar Desert surroundings. Spend the day getting lost in the winding, medieval alleyways and visit the vibrant shops and bazaars dotted all over the city.
