See some of China’s most famous sights while learning Mandarin along the way. The cultural sights of Beijing, the bursting energy of modern Shanghai and beauty of Hangzhou and Moganshan are guaranteed to inspire students to learn the language they hear and see all around them.



Day 1: Hutong tour

Arrive at Beijing Capital Airport and transfer to accommodation. Take a guided walk through one of Beijing’s ancient hutong areas. In the evening, enjoy a welcome banquet and trip briefing.


Day 2: Forbidden city

Calligraphy Lesson by a master painter. In the afternoon, learn about imperial China at Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, then take in the panoramic view of historic Beijing from Jingshan Park. Visit Wangfujing night market to try Chinese delicacies.


Day 3: Great Wall

Travel to the outskirts of the city (2 hours) and hike (2-3 hours) to a secluded and incredibly beautiful section of the Great Wall, avoiding the crowds. Watch a stunning acrobatics show in the early evening.


Day 4: Summer Palace

Visit the Temple of Heaven to see classic imperial Chinese architecture and get a taste of Chinese park life. In the afternoon visit the Summer Palace, walk through the grounds and then boat across the lake. Take a night train from Beijing Station to Shanghai Station (soft sleeper).


Day 5: Mandarin Lesson

Arrive in Shanghai in the morning and transfer to accommodation. First Mandarin lesson. Then take a guided tour of People’s Square, Nanjing Road and the Bund and learn about China’s rapid urban development.


Day 6: Yu Yuan Gardens

Begin the day with the second Mandarin lesson. Browse gifts and local delicacies in the afternoon at Yu Yuan Gardens and Bazaar. Then take a tour of Shanghai’s financial district, Lujiazui, and head to the top of the Pearl TV Tower, perhaps Shanghai’s most iconic building.


Day 7- Evening river cruise

Continue learning with a third Mandarin lesson. This final lesson will include cultural activities such as tea culture and fan painting. In the afternoon visit AP Mall shopping area to buy souvenirs. Enjoy an evening cruise on the Huangpu River for more amazing views of the Shanghai skyline.


Day 8: Bamboo forest

Travel to Moganshan National Park (4 hours), a stunning bamboo forest. Check in to mountain lodge accommodation. Hike up through bamboo forests to the mountain peak (3 hours) and then finish your trek at Chairman Mao’s summer house (entrance not included). Evening Mandarin presentations: students will make speeches in Mandarin about the week’s trip with prizes for the best presentations (organised by the school).


Day 9: Lake and temples

In the morning drive to Hangzhou(2 hours), known as China’s most beautiful city. Take a boat ride onto West Lake and look for temples and pagodas on the shoreline. Later take a walk down bustling Hefang Ancient Street. Evening coach transfer from Hangzhou to Shanghai (3 hours) and check in to accommodation.


Day 10: Fly Home

Transfer to Shanghai Pudong Airport for flight home.
