What are the learning outcomes of this trip?

  • Action: By the end of this completely nature-immersive trip, students should have gained basic skills in canyoning, white water rafting, hiking, and horseback riding. This action-packed itinerary explores the rough and untamed beauty of Hokkaido.
  • Creativity & Culture: Hokkaido, unlike the rest of Japan, is distinct in both weather and culture. This cool region boasts of an Ainu heritage – an ethnic group that has almost completely disappeared due to historically forced assimilation. Students will have the chance to explore Ainu history and learn their early forms of democracy, bear-worship, fashion, and dance. We will also be making some traditional foods and crafts.
  • Duke of Edinburgh/International Award: This itinerary can be adjusted to meet the requirements of the Bronze, Silver, or Gold awards.

Is it safe?

  • Travelling to Japan is safer than most other places. Crime rates in Japan are exceptionally low and many travellers to the country have been amazed by the levels of honesty they have encountered! Having said that, pick pockets operate regardless of nationality so we would always advise caution when travelling.
  • Moreover, The Dragon Trip treats health and safety with the utmost importance. We suss out the international-standard hospitals and medical facilities in every city we visit. We ensure the hostel accommodation we work with meet our high-standards and we have public liability insurance up to 5 million and full financial protection. You can see some of our policy and risk assessment forms on the website.

Can you help us get a trip approved?

  • Yes. We’ve worked closely with many schools to ensure their local council or authorising body have all the information they need in order to approve the trips, and that we have fulfilled all of our obligations regarding this. Ask us for more information.

Can we take a pre-departure inspection trip?

  • Yes. We offer discounted, pre-trip, teacher “recce trips” for your trip to Japan so you can do a preliminary check on all the locations and activities on your itinerary.
