Taking in the country’s two most important cities, Beijing and Shanghai, this tour provides an immersive look at China’s economic growth story. As well as visiting amazing historical sights and enjoying outdoor activities, students will tour a local company and a factory and see the dynamism of the world’s fastest growing economy first-hand.

Itinerary

Day 1: Ancient Hutongs

Arrive at Beijing Capital Airport and transfer to the accommodation. Take a guided tour through one of Beijing’s ancient hutong areas. In the evening, enjoy a welcome banquet and trip briefing.

Day : company visit

Visit a Chinese company to observe first-hand how business works in the world’s fastest growing economy. Enjoy a tour of the offices and lecture about the business in China followed by a student-led Q&A session. Previous companies include a Chinese “Youtube”, a start up incubator, a Chamber of Commerce etc. In the afternoon see the Olympic Park, including the Bird’s Nest Stadium and Watercube, where China assumed its position as a major player on the world stage. Lecture: We invite a guest speaker to speak about “Doing Business in China” from a foreign perspective, followed by a student led Q and A.

Day 3: Great Wall

Travel to a secluded and incredibly beautiful section of the Great Wall, avoiding the crowds. Watch an amazing kung fu show in the evening.

Day 4: Imperial China

Learn about imperial China at Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Afternoon Fast train (2nd class) from Beijing to Shanghai. Arrive in Shanghai and check-in to accommodation.

Day 5: Factory Visit

Visit a factory to see China’s manufacturing industry up close. Tour the factory and attend a lecture about the organisation and its trade in China followed by a Q&A session. Previous companies include a clean energy companies, a car manufacturer, a dairy factory etc. An afternoon tour of People’s Square, Nanjing Road and the Bund. Watch the spectacular ERA acrobatic and theatrical performance in the evening.

Day 6: Yu Yuan Gardens

Browse gifts and local delicacies at Yu Yuan Gardens and Bazaar. For lunch try Shanghai’s famous Xiao Long Bao dumplings. Then take a tour of Shanghai’s financial district, Lujiazui, and head to the top of the Pearl TV Tower, perhaps Shanghai’s most iconic building.

Day 7: Fly Home

Transfer to Shanghai Pudong Airport for flight home.
