Indonesia is made up of over 17,800 islands and is home to fascinating natural landscapes with diverse fauna and flora, waterfalls, volcanoes, tea plantations and rice terraces. Not only this, but the cuisine is great, it’s easy to meet other travellers and the locals are welcoming. Below are just ten of the many reasons why you need to visit Indonesia urgently! And what’s more these are available on our Indonesia budget trip!
Food in Indonesia
Indonesia food is diverse and exciting. Some of the most common and popular Indonesian dishes are meat satays, fried rice and fried vegetable dishes. If you’re feeling adventurous, why not try a typical dish called ‘gudeg’ which is made from boiled jackfruit, served with rice, spicy sambal sauce and chicken.
You must also make sure to try the high quality coffee in Indonesia. Especially because Indonesia is one of the largest coffee producers in the world. On another note, you must also try out the infamous ‘kopi luwak’ coffee, it has proven to benefit skin and prevent diseases such as breast cancer and diabetes!
Friendly locals
Indonesians are friendly people, who welcome tourists into their country with open arms. They tend to be very proud and passionate about their history and culture and usually love to share their knowledge with tourists. Who wouldn’t be proud of such a stunning country with amazing landscapes, nature and wildlife? In most places you travel to in Indonesia, you see some of the happiest smiles ever!
The best Islands & Beaches
With over 17,000 islands it is certain that Indonesia is filled with some of the most gorgeous beaches in the world. Indonesian beaches provide something for everyone: relaxation, watersports, snorkeling, surfing, parasailing, or simply sunbathing – you can definitely find a beach tailored to your needs. Bali has some popular beaches perfect for backpackers – or if you want something a little more unique, there is a secluded pink beach as part of the Komodo Islands, just two of the thousands of options in Indonesia.
Tea plantations
Fancy a bit of nature and countryside? In Indonesia, you can easily visit and learn more about tea plantations, that are plentiful between the volcanic hills that stretch from Bogor to Bandung. A small donation or fee can get you a tour of the tea factory at Gunung Mas, the Golden Mountain, to see the interesting tea production process.
Wildlife
Indonesia is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including tigers, monkeys, elephants and orangutans. If you want to spot some of these amazing creatures, it is recommended to go to the island of Kalimantan that has the Gunung Palung National Park & Betung Kerihun National Park. These are the best wildlife sanctuaries in Indonesia.
If you’re lucky, you might also get a chance to see the famous Komodo Dragons. These dragons inhabit and thrive in the harsh climate of Indonesia. Up to three metres long, you can commonly find these reptiles in the Komodo National Park.
Volcanoes
Did you know that Indonesia has 150 volcanoes? Indonesia is also renowned for its fiery volcanoes and is one of the most active volcanic areas in the world. With the gorgeous views overlooking the famous Mt Bromo Volcano, it is certain that these natural phenomenon make Indonesia an even more unique country to visit.
Snorkelling and Scuba Diving in Indonesia
Indonesia has the most incredible marine life in the world. In fact, it is home to 20% of the world’s coral reefs – this means that it is an outstanding place for scuba diving and snorkeling. Indonesia also has a number of shipwrecks that can be explored, which make for interesting and stunning dives.
Culture & tradition
Why not watch a famous Balinese dance that tells stories of ancient Buddhist and Hindu kingdoms? Or admire the Islamic culture which is represented through art and architecture? Indonesia is beaming with culture and tradition. This is mainly due to a mixture of major religions including Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Christianity, each with their own traditions. The concoction of religions and traditions has helped shape the culture of todays’ Indonesia.
Souvenirs and Shopping
You can find some awesome fashion deals in Indonesia. The city of Bandung has a range of factory outlet stores such as Rumah Mode Factory, Heritage Factory and Natural Factory are just a few of the places where you can find fashion for cheap prices. Definitely a great place to buy yourself some new items.
